Ho Ho Holy Cow It's CHRISTMAS!
So you were digging out the tree and lights and found that old recording of grandpa from the war or your old bands second demo tape. Did you know ARS can transfer them to CD in time to play them at the Christmas party. If you've got a little time, we can re-master that 'lil gem so you can give the gift of restored memories!
Blow grandma away with a demonstration of your Senior year chops! Travel through time back to 19 hundred and whatever when Gramps was in some far away place that was warmer than here for Christmas. Memories!
Well, as you can imagine, things have been the usual kind of crazy around here. There's too many people to mention, but I'll try.
The band Freezedried released their CD "Fear of Rubber Cushions" in the fall and now hope to crown their achievement with a grammy nomination in the Polka category. Good luck guys!
Benard Scavella has tracked, mixed and mastered a new jazz project, 'bout time.
The list goes on and on but we've got flocking to do!
Yes!
Happy Holidays and best of luck in the New Year from your friends at ARS Studios!
Ah summer, the sun sizzling like a juicy burger over the coals and your deep in a sweating contest with the coldest beverage of your choice. Just outside ARS Studios you can hear the music drifting off into the neighborhood like smokey BBQ on the breeze. Come in from the heat and see what's going on.
Inside the air conditioned comfort of studio A, Moist Guitars is enjoying some extened vocal sessions with master chef Larry Schara at the controls.
Also hiding out under the shade of the Amek Galileo is Minus The Girl. Mike Williams is running the blender whipping up something truly refreshing.
The hungry, hungry mosquitos drove Peter Oprisko back into studio B with Gary Cobb to add just a bit of ice to his already cool project with big band, The Teddy Lee Orchestra.
So forget about West Nile, beach closings, and the White Sox.
Mini camp starts this week! Get here now, and bring more ice!
"Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away." ~Antoine de Saint-Exupery
I'm not really sure who that guy was, but it's a darn good qoute to sum up things for the last month at ARS Studios.
Minus the Girl continues to mix with Mike Williams and Larry Schara handling the fine toothed combs.
Moist Guitars and Life is Drama also have moved on to mixing with Larry Schara.
The Teddy Lee Orchestra finished mastering with Gary Cobb.
There's nothing left to add.
When we last left our superheroes, they had just completed saving the city from the evil Dr. Static and his legions of irritating noise makers. Bringing good sounds back to the people. Now we find intrepid saviors fighting the good fight once again in this weeks episode... "Who's got gas money?" or "You should give the pizza guy a good tip!"
Mild manned engineer Bob Gilmore transformed into "Super B" with the power to finish mixes for the Joliet metal band Verkulak.
Larry "The Slash" Schara was able to save Dana Divine and her producer Hula from the horror of bad rhythm tracks for Dana's new album.
Gary "Uber" Cobb used his amazing ability to control sound for the Teddy Lee Orchestra. Using his super powers, Gary finished the mixes saving yet another project from eminent doom.
Meanwhile, back at the mastering room, Gary teamed up with Andy "The Awesome" Padayao to master the Fly For Freedom CD for Kevin Chalfant and poducer Rob Togliatti.
Mike "Wundah Brotha" Williams has taken on tracking fight for Minus The Girl.
Will our heroes survive?
Can they make it?
When will someone make a hybrid car people like? (and include full iPod integration)
Tune in next time to find out.
Same fat time, same fat channel.
Well what a month it's been! The weather did a *540, Mictwist with a sick nose grab, the Bulls made the playoffs, and the city is getting a shot at the 2016 Olympics. Heck, just this week the thermometer hit 80 and Shaq shot par! Bwa Ha Ha! Posey Sucks!
Speaking of the Olympics, Larry Schara continued his marathon effort around here presiding over tracking and overdubs for funny band, Moist Guitars. Larry also handled overdubs and mixes for Eric Bell along with all his other corporate work. Thank you, suits.
Bob Gilmore oversaw the tracking for metal band Verkulak. Mixes for their 7 track EP are soon to follow.
New guy, Nick Solis cranked the track for rapper Clinton Walker and his new demo.
Jennifer Highland got the call to track overdubs for Daniel Witherspoon and Kingdom Records.
Andy Padayao handled tracking vocals and is starting mixes for St. John Fischer.
And let's not forget Gary Cobb and his meticulous work for Tantara Productions on the restoration of past Stan Kenton recordings.
So, here's hoping the Bulls kick ass in Detroit and none of us here have time to golf.
Fat beats like thunder and lightning scorched guitars are the signatures of spring.
Quality sounds are in bloom at ARS.
First to emerge from the soil is Bremen Pub, Battle of the Bands winner, 2 Cents Short. Engineer Chris Dever helped to germinate some groovy rhythm tracks for the band.
Another Battle of the Bands winner is Salamander Drake. They've taken their winnings and planted the seeds for their new album "Nothing Tastes Like the Sun." Farmer Aaron Govert, drove the plow. (That's a step up from his lawn mower. It's still a John Deere though.)
Andy Padayao took refuge from the spring storms in the ARS Mastering suite with NoworNeva Entertainment budding rap artist, Chemical. The guys put the wraps on a new demo to be out soon.
As weird as the weather comes comedy rock band Moist Guitars. A new album is in the works while Larry Schara shoots milk out his nose. Also in with Larry is Chicago band Life is Drama. The quintet has begun the ground work for a full length album. Last up, Alt rockers Hunting the Rabbit spent time in mastering with Larry. Larry was kind enough to offer some advice to the band as they handled the recording of their new EP on their own.
Well, the planting is done.
Fire up the grill, it's Miller time!
Welcome to Spring?
Baseball and snow flurries, ah Chicago.
We got the hot bats here though. Leading off is player/coach Gary Cobb. Gary’s been working with Tantara Productions restoring past recordings of The Stan Kenton Orchestra. With Gary’s help, Tantara Productions has become the premier source for supreme quality Stan Kenton re-releases. Collected from various recordings of less than prefect fidelity, Gary cleans up the audio so well that some people think Stan is still alive.
Read a letter sent by a blow away “Stan Fan” in Gary’s Bio.
Up next is ARS Power hitter Larry Schara. Larry’s been busy cranking out commercials for Lavelle/Green productions in support of various political candidates in a tight pennant race of their own.
The on deck circle has been a place of interest too.
Rookie Aaron Govert got on base with Oi/Punk band Abortion 88. Watch out for the “Brawlers, Boozers, and Bitches” E.P. (and that shirt-less guy flailing by the speaker)
Out of the Bullpen comes rookie Will Stadler. Will’s throwin’ the heat for Blues and Soul artist, Marco.
Batting clean up is Andy Padayao. Andy put one over the fence for the band “Good Times”. Fully mastered, now they’re collaborating with Graphic artist Miguel Malagon for the lay out of the “Live at Navy Pier” CD. Andy also did some pinch hitting for just about everybody mentioned here.
One real bummer about the cold, It still feels like hockey season. We can only wish the Hawks felt that way. Go Bulls!
For ARS Sports,
I’m Jock Strapp.
St. John Fisher is currently mixing their project with Andy Padayao. Also working with Andy was Shirley Green, who recorded vocal tracks for her project.
Gary Cobb began mixing the melodies of the Teddy Lee Orchestra's current studio project.
Punk rock band "Abortion 88" began tracking at ARS this past Saturday. Aaron Govert is engineering the project.
Mark Nelson brought in the band "Hoosier Highway" to master their current project. The mastering engineer was Larry Schara.
Spring officially arrived this week and it fits typical Chicago profile -- total unpredictability.
Larry Schara was tracking and mixing several artists this week. Greta Pope swung by and worked with Larry on the continuation of her demo. Other artists who teamed with Larry on upcoming individual projects were: Sean Brister, Susan Reitsma, Ronald Lee, Dana Divine and Curtis Green. Also, some late hours were shared with Blaxican to track a radio skit to be included on his new CD.
Andy Padayao did tracking sessions for Good Times and St. John Fisher.
Faith and Begorrah! Another busy week at Ye Olde ARS.
The party settled down for awhile so we could all listen to the beatiful vocal stylings of one Greta Pope. Greta has been working with Larry Schara on her next release. Joanna Johnson completed a couple songs for her demo and New Faith Baptist Choir wrapped up a few mixes with Larry at the helm. Can you believe Larry actually managed to get some vacation time in lovely Nashville TN.
Elsewhere, work for the Salvation Army marches on. Both Gary Cobb and Jennifer Highland took turns leading the charge.
And what better way to wrap up St. Patty's Day week then with Ukrainian Dance band, Good Times! (O.K. they're not Irish but who doesn't like to dance.) They're moving closer to completion of a project, being carefully crafted by ARS's own Andy Padayao.
Well, that about wraps it up here. Remember, as you are enjoying the warmer weather, now is the time to get those demos ready to book the summer time outdoor shows!
That's right, I said SUMMER!
